چکیده
Successfully completing an engineering degree often requires at least four or five years of intense study by students, and many these students start their programs with a limited sense what engineer is does. During journey, some gravitate towards blend practical application theoretical knowledge principles; some, for diverse reasons, may be unable to invest the time required degree. For technologist career, which focuses on implementation, more appropriate.
Leveraging common first-year curriculum recently launched in British Columbia, Vancouver Island University has developed implemented new, generalist, Integrated Engineering Technologist diploma (ITED) that combines civil, mechanical, electrical principles, provides career pathway those who studies but choose not continue
This paper will focus development this new diploma, while subsequent evaluate its implementation.
The three phases IETD were:1. Identifying key program graduate attributes,2. Developing structure delivery modes, and,3. Creating detailed course content. Within first phase, inventory desired skills was obtained through broadly distributed surveys, direct engagement industry, professional, government groups, evaluation future needs within profession. outline methods used collect data, process data into thematic collection higher order attributes. Through iterative consultation process, credential broad, non-specialized disciplinary found best meet identified gap need. second phase consisted engineering, technologist, technician practice. discusses cohort model ultimately chosen, highly modular approach instructor team. Each four-week module consists up courses run parallel, where individual learning topics are treated collectively strategically sequenced facilitate learning. A summative assessment evaluates end each module.
In final on-going, specific content being developed, including lab-based field activities, classroom-based learning, project work. Examples work motivation provided.

متن کاملPre-College Engineering Participation Among First-Year Engineering Students
In recent years, engineering content is increasingly appearing in the K-12 classroom. As precollege engineering programs grow, first-year engineering students are arriving in university engineering programs with significant prior exposure to engineering content and practices. In this paper, we present the results of a survey of first-year engineering students on their participation in pre-colle...
متن کاملWorkshop 2: First Year Software Engineering
We envisage this workshop as a chance for Software Engineering Educators to share their challenges, successes and failures in teaching Software Engineering concepts to First Year (or beginning) students The specifics of the workshop will depend to some extent on the interests of the participants, but as a basis for organisation and discussion we will ask all participants to fill in a questionna...
متن کاملDeveloping a new model for availability optimization applied to a series-parallel system (Quality Engineering Conference Paper)
Redundancy technique is known as a way to enhance the reliability and availability of non-reparable systems, but for repairable systems, another factor is getting prominent called as the number of maintenance resources. In this study, availability optimization of series-parallel systems is modelled by using Markovian process by which the number of maintenance resources is located into the obje...

The Discover Engineering Summer Camp, launched in 1991, is a summer day camp that targets students in grades 10 to 12. According to the data from the 2001 camp, 98% of the participants indicated that the camp increased their knowledge about engineering, and 94% indicated that the camp increased their interest in considering engineering as a career option. This paper discusses activities that ha...
